Karato Area
This Western-style house was built for a son of the president of Holm Ringer & Co., a British trading company, and was used as the official residence of the British consulate and accommodations for a trading company. Its simple appearance without excessive decoration enhances the building's presence on a hill covered with beautiful greenery. The building is currently used as a memorial hall for the Shimonoseki-born world-famous opera singer Fujiwara Yoshie (December 5, 1898–March 22, 1976), whose father served as manager at Holm Ringer & Co. The hall is filled with his beautiful songs.
