This is a Western-style two-story wooden station building that was completed in 1914.
The symmetric Neo-Renaissance building was constructed under the supervision of the German engineer Hermann Rumschöttel.
Recognized for its historical value, this was the first station building designated as an important cultural property by the national government.
It is filled with a modern atmosphere, with a bronze washbasin and flush toilets, an example of their early introduction in early-20th-century Japan.
You can feel the splendid culture of the Taisho era (1912–1926) here.
