It is believed that this place is the former site of the temporary imperial palace built for Emperor Chuai and Empress Jingu when they suppressed the Kumaso, a powerful clan in Kyushu. It is believed that they lived there for seven years from 193 to 200 AD, and that the building was destroyed by fire in the medieval era, and deities once enshrined there were added to the deities of Iminomiya-jinja Shrine.
