Jokamachi-Chofu Area
This museum, opened in November 2016, exhibits letters and mementos of great figures who played leading roles at the end of the Edo period, including Takasugi Shinsaku and Sakamoto Ryoma, as well as items left by the Chofu Mori family. The permanent exhibition showcases the history of Shimonoseki, from ancient times to the present time, focusing on the early modern era, and the era of the shift from samurai rule to the Meiji Restoration. Theme-based special exhibitions are also worth seeing.
