Chofu Garden
Why not feel Japanese elegance while strolling around a quiet garden?
This place was the site of the residence of Nishi Yukinaga, one of the chief vassals of the Chofu Mori Domain, and is currently a Japanese-style landscape garden with a circular path, where you can enjoy seasonally changing landscapes. In the about-30,000-m2 garden against the background of a hill, there are a pond, a Shoin building, a tea ceremony building, a stream and so on. This garden has maintained the quiet atmosphere of the olden days. The garden is also dotted with storehouses, one of which, called Ichinokura, houses stores selling sweets and novelties on the first floor, and a gallery dedicated to works by Shimonoseki-based artists on the second floor. The storehouse called Ninokura houses a tourism material section, while the storehouse Sannokura has a gallery open to the public for free.
