Mekari Park Observation Deck No. 2 overlooks the Kanmon Bridge, which connects Kitakyushu City and Shimonoseki City, and the Kanmon Strait, where strong currents are whirling. Considering the nearby natural environment, the terrace deck is made of wood.
A huge mural, 3 meters high and 44 meters long, created with 1,400 Arita-ware plates, depicting the Battle of Dannoura that occurred in 1185 between the Minamoto and Taira clans, is also a must-see feature. This mural is based on a part of a picture scroll possessed by Akama-jingu Shrine in Shimonoseki City, and is one of the largest outdoor ceramic plate murals.
