Novelist Hayashi Fumiko (December 31, 1903–June 28, 1951) was born in Komorie in Moji-ku. She produced many popular works, represented by Horoki (A Wanderer's Note), a novel about her own wandering life. A commemorative literary monument to Hayashi Fumiko's birthplace was erected near her birthplace in 1974. The monument is inscribed with her poem Tanagokorososhi. Every year on a Sunday near June 28, the anniversary of her death, a gathering is held to commemorate her. The former Moji Mitsui Club near JR Mojiko Station houses the Hayashi Fumiko Exhibition Room.
