Kitakyushu Museum of Natural History & Human History

Kitakyushu Museum of Natural History & Human History

This museum is very popular with both adults and children! Travel around the dinosaur museum, which has an overwhelmingly large scale

See, Play, Experience Other Areas in Kitakyushu City

This is one of the largest museums of natural history and human history in Western Japan. Focusing on the theme of "Travel of life," this museum is popular for its entertainment-oriented exhibitions, which enable visitors to enjoy learning. Many skeletal specimens of about-35-meter-long seismosaurus, stegosaurus and others in a row fuel our imagination of ancient times. Another must-see section is the Time Traveling Room, where dinosaur robots realistically move in a diorama reproducing Kitakyushu in the Mesozoic and the Cretaceous periods.
The museum is also filled with attractions of a historical museum: the history zone featuring a Tobata Gion Oyamagasa festival float, which is one of the elements inscribed on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity; the Culture Mall, which introduces dashi floats of Kitakyushu's three major summer festivals and other items; the Discovering History section, which exhibits full-scale reproductions of houses in the Yayoi period and the period from 1955 to 1964; and the Pocket Museum, which displays the museum's precious collection. The History of Kitakyushu section introduces the history of Kitakyushu under the theme of "road," showcasing portraits of Miyamoto Musashi, and local legends about the Taira clan.
