Wasshoi Hyakuman Natsu-matsuri
Kitakyushu's representative festivals and the energy of one million Kitakyushu residents unite here!
This festival started in 1988, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the City of Kitakyushu. It is a special feature of the summer of Kitakyushu, and attracts 1.5 million visitors.
The two-day festival features various events, including Hyakuman-odori, a procession of about 10,000 dancers wearing colorful costumes; Natsu-matsuri Daishugo ("summer festivals come together"), in which festival floats called dashi, yamagasa or mikoshi from the wards of the city participate; YOSAKOI dance performed at four venues, including JR Kokura Station JAM Square and Kokura Izutsuya Crossroad; and events in Katsuyama Park and Riverwalk Kitakyushu.
On the final day, 6,000 fireworks light up the night sky, and mark the grand finale of the festival.
